Time For A New Season

Patricia Ann Cakes' story grows into something new & beautiful

Hello all. If you haven't seen me around much in the past few months in the cake world, it's deliberate. I have been reframing my identity and focusing on personal, purposeful activities which really light a new flame within me. My story is below of this new change in my life.

Closing a Beautiful Chapter: A Life in Sugar, and What Comes Next

There are moments in life when a quiet knowing settles in—steady, certain, and unmistakable. For me, that moment has arrived. After many years of designing and creating cakes, I am closing this chapter of my business and stepping into a new season.

This decision has not come quickly, nor without reflection. It has been shaped over time, just as my work has been—layer by layer, phase by phase.

My journey began simply, with children’s cakes—joyful, colorful creations made to celebrate small, meaningful milestones. From there, my work expanded into cake pops, dessert tables, and birthday cakes. Each step brought new techniques, new clients, and new opportunities to refine my craft.

Eventually, I found myself drawn toward teaching—sharing what I had learned with others who felt that same creative pull. That chapter was deeply rewarding, offering connection and the satisfaction of passing on knowledge.

In time, my focus evolved once more, leading me into the world of wedding cakes. This final chapter of my business was one of refinement and intention. Designing for weddings required not only technical precision, but a thoughtful understanding of beauty, balance, and meaning. It was here that my work felt most aligned—where artistry and purpose met in their most elevated form.

And yet, as the years have passed, my creative spirit has begun to call me in a different direction.

I have found myself returning to quieter, more grounded pursuits—ones that feel rooted in tradition and simplicity. Sewing has become a new form of expression, allowing me to create with my hands in a slower, more deliberate way. There is a rhythm to it that feels both familiar and deeply satisfying.

In my kitchen, I have embraced the art of sourdough bread making—a practice that requires patience, care, and trust in the process. It is a return to basics, where time and intention matter more than speed.

Out in the garden, I am cultivating not only vegetables, but a way of life. Growing, harvesting, and canning what I produce has brought a profound sense of connection—to the seasons, to the land, and to a more self-sufficient way of living. Alongside this, I am creating a pollinator garden filled with flowers—an ever-changing landscape that invites beauty, life, and quiet observation.

These pursuits may seem simple, but they are anything but small. They represent a shift—a turning inward, a honoring of time, and a desire to live with greater intention.

Closing my cake business is not an ending defined by loss, but one marked by completion. It is the natural conclusion of a chapter that has been rich with growth, creativity, and meaningful connection.

And now, I find myself standing at the beginning of something new.

A chapter with blank pages.

There is something both humbling and invigorating about not knowing exactly what comes next. But I welcome it. With experience behind me and curiosity ahead, I step forward with gratitude for all that has been—and openness for all that may be.

To every client, every student, and every person who supported my work along the way—thank you. It has been an honor to create for you.

And now, I turn the page.
